Fort Benjamin Harrison was established as an Indiana National Guard training site in June of 1904 in Lawrence Township of Marion County. During the summer of 1910 Fort Harrison was the site of a major training operation of National Guard officers from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Illinois. The school was an experiment designed to bring the militias up to the highest standards along with the regular army on field work and army tactics. This group of Ohio National Guard officers participated in the first camp school that year, arriving at the fort in June 1910. They are identified by the insignia on their collars.
